Highway patrol respond to fatal crash in McDermott

On Wednesday, May 2nd at 10:01 p.m., the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) received a call of a two vehicle injury crash on State Route 104 in McDermott, a press release from OSHP stated.


According to the release, Robert R. Simpson, 29, of McDermott was traveling south on State Route 104. Robert Sargent, 59, of Circleville was traveling north on State Route 104. Simpson drove left of center and struck Sargent head-on.

Sargent received serious non-life threating injuries and was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital. Simpson was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC), where he was pronounced dead.

According to the release, Simpson was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
