On April 11, federal legislation that gives prosecutors greater power to pursue websites that host sexually exploitative ads was signed into law. Subsequently, Backpage.com officials are facing federal and state charges of conspiracy to facilitate prostitution and money laundering.

A Lima woman who trafficked her daughters in exchange for money to support her drug addiction has been sentenced to 64 years in prison.

The Westerville Police Department hosted a community meeting at Westerville City Hall to learn about human trafficking and how to identify and respond to potential instances of trafficking, following several local trafficking-related investigations.

On March 19, a Canal Winchester man was indicted on human trafficking and other charges for allegedly advertising two women and one juvenile online for commercial sex and child pornography.

An investigation conducted by the Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force has led to the arrests of four individuals for allegedly sex trafficking women using online advertisements.

Over the Edge to End Child Sex Trafficking

Gracehaven is hosting a fundraiser in which the first 115 people to raise a minimum of $1,250 will earn a spot to rappel 330 feet down the Chase Tower in downtown Columbus.

Scioto County Sheriff’s Department was contacted on April 16 regarding any locally planned events. However, they have not announced any.
