Spencer, Adams qualify for for NAIA Track and Field Championships
Spencer finished first in Athens in women’s half-marathon; Adams takes second on men’s side
Athens, Ohio – Kate Spencer and Steven Adams both qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the half-marathon on Sunday at the Athens, Ohio Marathon.
Spencer would finish first overall in the women’s half-marathon in Athens on Sunday, besting 464 runners in the event. She finished with a time of 1:28:03, nearly a full two minutes ahead of the NAIA’s national “A” standard of 1:30:00. Spencer’s qualification for the NAIA National Championships is the first of her career.
Adams would also have a strong finish in Athens, placing second in the men’s half-marathon. Adams finished the race in 1:13:40, beating the NAIA’s national “B” standard by over a minute and missing the “A” standard by a mere 10 seconds.
Spencer and Adams join a group of Bears who have qualified for the NAIA National Championships. Seth Farmer (1500-meter), Brooke Smith (1500-meter, 5000-meter), Anna Havranek (10,000-meter) and Alyssa Taylor (10,000-meter) have all qualified for the championship meet in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
