Kate Spencer named MSC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Spencer becomes the third Bear to win the award this season
Portsmouth, Ohio – Kate Spencer was named Mid-South Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Spencer won the Athens Marathon’ half-marathon event on Sunday afternoon. She placed first in the event out of 464 runners, finishing with a time of 1:28.03. Her time beat the NAIA’s national “A” standard of 1:30:00 by nearly two full minutes, and guaranteed Spencer a spot in the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, hosted in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The award is the first of Spencer’s career. She is the third Shawnee State athlete to win the Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award for the outdoor season, joining Brooke Smith and Anna Havranek. Smith has won the award twice. Shawnee State has won four of the five Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week awards so far this season.
Shawnee State track and field return to action on April 20 at the Jesse Owen Classic and the Otterbein Twilight Invitational.
