Dust off your spurs and cowboy hats because the Roy Rogers Festival will be returning to Portsmouth August 1-4 at the Holiday Inn on Second Street.
“We have some good guests lined up,” said Roy Rogers Festival Committee member Adam Jones.
Jones announced that this year’s festival will include Geoffrey Deuel, (actor) known for portraying Billy the Kid in John Wayne western Chisum and brother of the late Pete Deuel from television series Alias Smith & Jones; Kathy Garver, from television show Family Affair; Morgan Brittany from TV show Dallas; Martin Kove, famous for The Karate Kid, RAMBO, First Blood Part II and Cagney & Lacey; and Rudy Ramos, who is most famous for television series The High Chaparral, who will also be starring in Kevin Costner’s new television series Yellowstone to debut on Paramount Television Network in June.
Jones explained that the committee is working on arranging for Ramos to also perform his hour long one man play of Geronimo.
In addition to the varied actors coming into town in August, the Roy Rogers Festival also brings family members of legendary performers in for the event. This year, the festival will host Julie Ann Ream, granddaughter of Cactus Mack, author and producer; Julie Fox Pomilias granddaughter of Dale Evans and Tom Fox and Dodie Rogers and her husband Jon Patterson.
Each year, the Roy Rogers Festival honors the memory of Rogers, the Dry Run native. Western fans come from far and wide to meet the stars from shows they grew up with. The event includes three days of meet and greets, entertainment, banquets and a look-a-like contest.
Saddle up and join in the festivities the first weekend of August. For more information and for event pricing, visit www.OfficialRoyRogersFestival.org.
