Anna Mae (Applegate) Bruch, 88, of West Portsmouth, died Friday, March 30, 2018 at her home. She was born November 3, 1929 in Portsmouth to the late Charles and Julia (Hannah) Applegate. Ann was an active member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she worked the Mercy Meals and parish festivals, she was an excellent cook, a seamstress, Red Cross swimming instructor, a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, and a Girl Scout leader. She worked for Portsmouth City Schools and also worked as a Realtor for Bob Sommers Realty.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Christa Nichols, a grandson, Andrew Nichols, and two brothers, Richard and Charles Applegate.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Frank J. Bruch, her children, Michael Bruch (Patty) of Mentor, Joe Bruch (Susie) of McDermott, Bill Bruch (Carrie) of South Shore, KY, Scott Bruch (Sandra) of Athens, Craig Bruch (Andrea) of Newark, Mimi Wallace of Portsmouth, Bambi Coakley (Brett) of Beavercreek, Barbara Lopez (Ron) of Chillicothe, 25 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, a son-in-law, Robert Nichols, her brothers; James, William, Henry, Gary, Howard, and Ralph Applegate. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. A visitation for friends and family will be from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM Monday, April 2, 2018 at Melcher Funeral Home in Portsmouth, where a Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:30 PM.
