The Southern Ohio War Memorial Foundation (SOWMF) will be hosting their Fifth Annual Benefit Christian Bluegrass concert and dessert auction, with all proceeds going to the War Memorial Project, in honor of anyone killed in action.

“We are trying to build a war memorial, about two miles north of Lucasville, and this is one of the benefits we are hosting in order to raise money to do that. This war memorial we are trying to build covers seven Southern Ohio counties and is called the Southern Ohio War Memorial. It will be in honor of those defeated from World War 1, all through the Great Depression,” SOWMF member Ron Caldwell stated.

The SOWMF has been working on this project since 2011, hosting various benefits and events to raise money. First, the day will kick off with food including a concession stand opening around 4:30, with hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken noodles, drinks, and other delicious items. The auction will start at 5 PM, ran by Allens Auctions in Minford, who will be auctioning off a number of goods; such as pies, cakes and other baked goods, which people will then bid on. Their highest recorded amount so far for a pie sold was last year, when the foundation sold an apple pie for $175, but they are hoping to break that record this year by selling a pie for at least $200, Caldwell explained. After the auction, the Appalachian Christian Hillbilly Band will be introduced. They will perform hillbilly, country, and bluegrass music for the first half of their performance, and gospel for the second half. The entertainment is suitable for all ages.

The Benefit Christian Bluegrass Concert and dessert auction will start at 5:00 PM, and will go on until 8:30 PM on Saturday, March 10 at the Valley High School Cafeteria, on 1821 OH-728, Lucasville, Ohio. For more information, go to www.sowmf.org, or contact SOWMF Chairman Gene Elliot at (740)-259-9188.

“It’s a truly wonderful evening. It doesn’t cost anything to get in, just come and enjoy yourself. If you want to eat, you can eat. If you want to get involved in the auction, you can surely go ahead and do so, but you don’t have to. Just enjoy yourself. That’s all you’ll need for a wonderful evening,” Caldwell concluded.
