The Portsmouth West High School Theater Department and Choir will be donating proceeds of their upcoming production of Les Miserables to the Friends of Greenlawn Cemetery Foundation in efforts to help with the group’s restoration efforts..
The two entities have worked together numerous times in the past with the West students being eager to help with local community improvement projects while also showcasing their many talents.
“They performed for our first fundraiser, ‘The Story Of Us; a Lamplight Tour,’ the re-enactment we did in late October. They also performed at our Christmas in Greenlawn event,” Friends of Greenlawn board member Debbie Gambill stated.
The foundation has been working hard on restoring the cemetery, with all donations and grants going to the restoration.
The Friends of Greenlawn Cemetery are very grateful for this production and encourage all to attend and support these student actors. The West production will be featuring such student actors as Alec Arnett, who is also the drum major in the band and Fern Musick. Both students have a history of acting with the school starring in a range of musicals, including such productions as Cinderella.
Portsmouth West will be performing Les’ Miserables on Feb. 23rd and 24th at 7:30 PM. The proceeds received on the 24th show will be donated in an effort to restore Greenlawn, which has been a part of the Portsmouth community for decades. Tickets will be sold for $10 at the door or in advance at Portsmouth West High School.
