The New Year is about celebrating new beginnings, new opportunities and new life. For the parents of Scioto County’s Baby New Year, the holiday is also about celebrating their new daughter.

Andrea Compton, 18, of Franklin Furnace, and Dalton Ridout, of McArthur, welcomed the arrival of their daughter Zoewie Nakole Ridout at 3:17 p.m. on New Year’s Day. The baby is the first baby to be delivered at Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) in 2018.
Compton says she was due on Jan. 8 and had no expectations of having the first baby of the year. The new mother added that she entertained ideas of her daughter coming early and possibly being a New Year’s baby but not the New Year’s baby.

“I didn’t expect to, but his family is all holiday babies, so I kinda thought she may come early,” Compton commented just hours after giving birth.
Even after her daughter was born, Compton said she was surprised to hear that her baby was the first to be born this year.
“It was exciting to know that she was first. I didn’t think she would be considering it was already halfway through the day,” Compton stated.
Both mom and baby are healthy and doing well.

“She’s been a very good baby. I couldn’t ask for a better baby!” Compton said.
She and the baby’s father couldn’t be more excited about what 2018 has brought to their lives and look forward to all the moments they will share with their little Baby New Year.
